The effect was like a ceiling inset with diamonds. Not just the sounds of sailing boats are different, the below-deck lighting is as well. Flush deck schooners without much of a deckhouse allowed daylight into the cabins below through deck mounted glass diamond windows. Imagine the creaking sounds of the hull and mast, the sound of the boom swinging to starboard, and the shadow of the big mainsail crossing the deck. The brilliant light magically illuminating a myriad of swirling dust specks.
