My earliest glass was a utilitarian Boy Scout one of sturdy brass. I studied insects and the skin of my hand. However, after turning my dad’s newspaper into charcoal, it was confiscated, despite me protestation that the glass was an essential tool of scientific discovery. Our discovery glass allows detailed examination of maps, coins, and other wonders.
